Personal:

Married with 2 kids. My personal story is that at the time I started running, I was 5'11", 255lbs. When my daughter was born I realized how important it was to me to not only be there for all of her significant milestones and life events, but how important it was to truly BE THERE. By that I mean that I needed to be the BEST version of myself physically, so that I could be a great example to her, and could be a healthy participant in all of life's magical events. When I first started, I could finish a mile (barely) on a good day in about 11-12 minutes. Now, I am running 40 miles a week as I prepare for my first full marathon and currently weigh 170lbs.

LSD run. Felt strong and refreshed afterwards. Ran by a bank that said it was 48 degrees, or 70 degrees. It was not sure.

4 miles easy - Easy is always relative coming off a LSD run. I would say this one looked easy to someone I was running by, but felt like I was running through sand.

6 miles hills - Current plan calls for weekly hill runs in the first seven weeks, and describes the effort as comfortably hard. I think I should start a civil war while describing myself as an advanced beginner. Any other oxymorons I should consider?

Felt easier than the last 4 mile easy run.

Weather conditions - Temp - surface of the sun, humidity - Louisiana Swamp. Run results - work out gear now weighs more than I do.

This was supposed to be a 5 mile run I yelled at my 7 month old son who refused to nap for longer than 30 minutes. He seemed to not understand....

Why is it that when you run, the wind always seems to be blowing in your face? I ran straight east, and than straight west, in to the wind, both ways. Did I mention it was all uphill as well?

Also, it snowed.

Thanks Rob,

I appreciate the comment. I do almost all of my training on my own, so this will be helpful I think towards feeling a bit more a part of the running community.

Hill run at home. Forgot to bring my watch, so not sure what my time was, but the effort felt OK. My right calf/feet were a little bit sore. I did some foam rolling and stretching at night.

47:46 Total - Legs felt GREAT. It was hard to keep an easy pace at the end, as I really wanted to run harder, but I know I need to save my legs for the more difficult training sessions/weeks to come. Looking forward to the 10k race on Saturday, but bummed that I can't run it all out.

Tune up run before my 10k on Saturday. 2 miles easy with 2 at MP (8:45) per mile. Went a little faster than intended with splits of 8:40 and 8:33. Total time - 36:22.

Legs didn't feel snappy, probably due to the increased mileage from my marathon training plus the fact that I have done very little speed training. The first four weeks of my marathon training is pretty much entirely base training plus hills. The fastest mile I had ran was about 8:30, so I feel like coming out to this 10k and running at 7:43/mile with no taper was a good effort. I ran this race with my wife, Dad, uncle, and two close friends. My friend Bill beat me by about 20 seconds, and it was his second race ever. Good for him!

LSD - total time 1:10:02. (9:25/mile) This run was supposed to be 10 miles, but I had raced the day before, so I cut the distance short and took it easy to make sure I didn't risk injury ahead of the more difficult weeks to come in my marathon training plan. Overall mileage for the week was right on plan, due to the increase on Saturday. Quads and calves felt sore afterwards, but it was a good kind of sore. The kind you get when you know you have put a tough week in and gotten stronger. They felt pretty good when I woke up Monday morning.

At least it wasn't a headwind with snow, right? ;)

It wasn't Jon (thank goodness). I was racing a storm that was coming in though. It was actually pretty serene.

Total Time - 28:53. Took it very easy to keep the legs fresh ahead of probably the toughest training week I have ever taken on. Did three strides afterwards to get the legs firing. Felt sluggish at first but the run got better as I went on. Dreading the two mid week 8 milers (one hills, one with 6 miles at MP) coming up, followed by a 14 mile LSD. Only gets tougher from here though! Good news is the quads and hamstrings feel completely recovered after my race on Saturday, so physically in a good spot.

Hill Run - Total Time - 1:15:06 (9:23 PACE). I was really dreading this workout, but it really was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. My first two miles were the slowest, and my last two the fastest. It really built some confidence, which is good going into the tougher training sessions to come. Legs finally feel fully recovered after the 10k on Saturday, which is FANTASTIC.
